Paid parking in Montevideo
The paid parking zone of Ciudad Vieja, Centro and Cordón runs Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00. Here’s what the Intendencia publishes: the zone, the price, how to pay and the free days.
Reviewed on 23 October 2026
Hours
- Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00.
- Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays off work are free. The Intendencia publishes each year’s free parking dates; if a holiday moves to another day, so does the free parking.
- On Día del Centro, the first purchase of the day gets 3 hours in a row for free. You still have to start a ticket: if you end it within the 3 hours it costs nothing, and after 3 hours the extra minutes are charged. The 3 hours can’t be split over the day.
The zone
The zone’s page describes it by the streets that bound it:
| Side | Limit |
|---|---|
| South | North sidewalk of Rambla Gran Bretaña; Maldonado (not included) from Ciudadela to Martínez Trueba; Martínez Trueba, Soriano, Magallanes and José Enrique Rodó to Paysandú |
| North | Paysandú (not included) from Arenal Grande to Ejido; Ejido; Galicia, from Ejido to Florida; Rambla 25 de Agosto (not included) from Florida to Pérez Castellano |
| East | Arenal Grande, from José Enrique Rodó to Paysandú |
| West | Pérez Castellano (not included) from Rambla 25 de Agosto to Rambla Gran Bretaña |
The zone isn’t published as a map in open data: we didn’t find it in the Intendencia’s data catalogue or in the State’s Open Data Catalogue. That’s why this page has no map of its own: we don’t draw the zone by hand. The official plans the Intendencia publishes show, inside the zone, the loading zones and the spaces for people with disabilities, from 2018, and the motorcycle spaces, from 2021.
Price
$ 52 an hour, according to the price page, updated on 09/01/2025. On WhatsApp you don’t buy half hours: you pay a minimum of 15 minutes and then the minutes you use.
If you buy by phone, the time counts from when the purchase confirmation reaches you, by message or call. The message or call is charged separately, by your plan.
How to pay
On WhatsApp, at 099 019 500, charged to the vehicle’s SUCIVE account. According to the WhatsApp page:
- You register the vehicle once: send the word estacionamiento, choose Registrar un nuevo vehículo and enter the plate and the padrón number.
- To start, send estacionamiento and choose Con matrícula asociada.
- To end, send fin.
Every 120 minutes it reminds you that you have parking in progress. What you used is added to SUCIVE from the 15th of the following month, with a WhatsApp notice, and paid that month on the SUCIVE website (Estacionamiento tarifado) or at Abitab or Redpagos with the plate and the padrón.
By text message to 466 (Antel, Movistar and Claro): E, the plate and the minutes, for example E SZS1234 60. For a later time the same day, add the time: E SZS1234 60 15:00. Also by calling 2999 9016 from an Antel line. Five minutes before the time runs out, you get a reminder.
At payment networks: Abitab, Cafidur, Próximo (Banca de Quiniela shops), Redpagos and shops with Interbil or Pos SA. You can buy outside the zone, up to five days ahead.
Other ways: with AncaPuntos, a text message to 6006 in the same format, and the apps T2Parking, Movistar’s, Claro’s, BITS and OCA’s.
Resident permit
For people who live inside the zone and have no garage. It lets you park in every enabled space of the paid zone during the system’s hours, except loading zones, motorcycle spaces and reserved parking. The procedure, updated on 11/08/2025, asks for:
- The registration card: the vehicle registered in Montevideo in the applicant’s name, with its tax paid up.
- A notarial certificate that you live inside the zone and have no garage of your own or rented during the day, valid for one year.
You apply online, with an electronic address, or in person by appointment at Av. 18 de Julio 1360. It costs the equivalent of 0.15 UR a month (the DGI publishes the UR’s value) and is paid by the 10th of each month at Abitab, Redpagos or by bank debit. A month you don’t pay, you don’t have the permit, and it creates no debt.
Special zones
- Loading and unloading: usually 12 metres, for exclusive use Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 19:00 and Saturdays from 7:00 to 13:00, for utility vehicles only.
- People with disabilities and motorcycles: reserved, signposted spaces inside the zone.
They’re on the special zones page, with their plans.
