Vehicle transfer in Maldonado
In Maldonado the change of owner is done in person at the Registro de Vehículos, by appointment, and the DIV in the new owner’s name is handed over the same day.

Requirements
The Intendencia’s page asks for:
- A valid ID card or passport in good condition for every party: the current owner, the new owner or their representatives.
- The Documento de Identificación del Vehículo (DIV, the vehicle identification document).
- The original title registered with the Registro de la Propiedad Mobiliaria, Sección Automotores, and its photocopy.
- Valid SOA (compulsory motor insurance).
- The vehicle tax up to date, with no unpaid traffic fines or tolls.
- If a representative acts, a power of attorney with notarial certification of signatures or a mandate, up to one year old. If it’s a company, a notarial certificate of good standing no more than one year old.
- A vehicle from before 2012 without the chassis number on the DIV goes to technical inspection.
How it’s done
In person, with an appointment on the Registro de Vehículos booking. The same day they hand you the DIV in the new owner’s name. In the enabled municipalities, you book by phone or in person at the municipality.

Vehicle identification document: $ 1,780, for any vehicle, according to the page updated on 16/07/2026.
