In Rivera the change of ownership on the registration card is done in person, at the Intendencia’s Trámites y Habilitaciones office, at a municipality or at the Montevideo office.
Reviewed on 23 October 2026
Requirements
The transfer page asks for:
- A photocopy of the vehicle owner’s ID card and, if they’re married, their spouse’s.
- A photocopy of the future owner’s ID card.
- The SOA, compulsory motor insurance.
- The vehicle, for inspection.
- The notarial certification, or the court’s if ownership passes to heirs.
- Proof of address.
If the owner has died, all the heirs sign the transfer or give a power of attorney. If the owner is married, both attend. The Trámites y Habilitaciones page adds that every procedure needs the patente up to date.
