Requirements

The procedure page, updated on 06/07/2022, and the Intendencia’s frequently asked questions ask for:

  • One of these four: the registered title, original and photocopy; a power of attorney certified by a notary, if the transfer is to the attorney with the powers of article 2070, less than 1 year old or with a certificate of validity; the signature of both parties, seller and buyer; or a sale contract certified by a notary.
  • ID card and a photocopy, of the buyer and the seller if the transfer is by both signatures.
  • The registration card (libreta de propiedad) and a photocopy.
  • The SOA (compulsory motor insurance) and a photocopy.
  • The vehicle tax up to date. If the vehicle owes anything, a payment plan is made on the spot.
  • Proof of address in the department: an OSE, UTE or Antel bill, the police residence certificate, the department’s voter ID or a notarial certificate. The frequently asked questions ask for this, not the procedure page.

How it’s done

  • In person, without an appointment, by ticket in order of arrival, at the Dirección General de Tránsito or at any Tránsito office in the department. The seller and the buyer go, or a third party with a power of attorney.
  • By email, to [email protected], with the documents attached and a phone number, so they can tell you when it’s done.

Cost

The Intendencia’s frequently asked questions say $ 1,707; the procedure page, updated on 06/07/2022, says $ 1,419. Confirm it at 4342 9000, extension 1176.
