In Treinta y Tres the change of owner is called transferencia municipal: it’s done in person at the Dirección de Tránsito or at a municipality, and the new registration card is handed over the same day.

Requirements

The procedure page, updated on 21/02/2024, asks for:

  • Valid SOA (compulsory motor insurance).
  • The ID card of the buyer and the seller.
  • The titles or a power of attorney, certified by a notary public (original and photocopy), with its stamp.
  • The lien-free certificate (libre de prendas), no more than 24 hours old. For a motorcycle from Treinta y Tres, it’s done at the Intendencia itself.
  • The vehicle, for the technical inspection, or the inspection by Autotest, Computest, the Intendencia, the mayors’ offices or the police stations.
  • If the current or the new owner is a company, a notarial certificate (original and photocopy) and, if it’s an SRL or SA, the certificate of representation and good standing.
  • If the owner has died, with the estate settled, the registered opening of the estate and the certificate of the probate results that includes the vehicle. All the heirs go, or a power of attorney represents them.
  • For professional freight transport, the DGI and BPS certificates up to date for both parties and the DGI forms the page lists.

The Intendencia’s page adds the registration card (libreta de propiedad) and no debts with SUCIVE, and says the registered title can be replaced by the presence of the current and the new owner. Public service vehicles (taxis, school transport, remises, ambulances and buses) are deregistered from that service first.

How it’s done

  1. You present all the documents at the office, which records them in the system.
  2. You pay at a payment network (red de cobranza), the only place to pay.
  3. With the receipt, they hand you the registration card in the new owner’s name, the same day.

If any requirement is missing, the procedure isn’t done.

Cost

The catalog page says to ask at the office. The Intendencia’s 2026 cost sheet lists the registration card at $ 1,779.52, without detailing what each procedure charges: confirm it at 4452 2108, extension 137.
