Driver’s license in Cerro Largo

First time

Each category has its page in the official catalogue: A, G1, G2, H, and the professional ones B, C, D, E, F and G3. They all ask for:

• A valid ID card.
• The Intendencia de Cerro Largo’s stamp (sellado) and the CJPPU professional stamp (timbre profesional), valid at the time of the application.
• Being up to date, with no pending sanctions or disqualifications and no procedure pending at another intendencia.

For the practical test, all except E also ask for:

• A vehicle suited to the category, with no debt and no fines, with its DIV (registration card). If it isn’t in your name, a note signed by the owner.
• The driver’s license of someone with the same category you’re applying for, with a note signed by them.

Categories B, C and D include H. Between 16 and 18 there’s also the minor’s permit for category A, for cars and vans in urban areas, local roads and the towns of Cerro Largo. For G1 and the minor’s permit, the father and mother, or the guardian, sign as responsible.

1. Book in the online booking or at 4642 9308, on working days from 8:15 to 13:00.
2. Go on the day and time of the booking with the documents. You’re called by your ID number on a screen, which tells you which desk to go to.
3. According to the category A page, you take a psychophysical exam with an Intendencia doctor, a written exam and a practical one.

For the practical test you don’t have a license yet: don’t drive the vehicle there.

Renewal

According to the renewal pages for A, the professional categories, motorcycles and H:

• You go up to 30 days before it expires, with your ID card and the license.
• For the professional ones (B, C, D, E and F), a valid health card. For motorcycles, proof of address.
• If it expired more than 2 years ago, there’s a practical test: bring a vehicle of the category with its taxes paid (with the owner’s note if it isn’t yours), the license of someone with the same category with their signed note, and a helmet and vest.
• The practical test is also compulsory for people over 74 in A and over 75 in G2.
• G1 isn’t renewed: when it expires, from age 18, you move up to G2, with that category’s requirements and practical test.

You book the same way as the first time.

Duplicate

If you lost your license or it was stolen, the duplicate asks for a valid ID card and the police report, and being up to date. It expires when the original did. You book the same way.

Cost

According to the pages updated on 02/10/2026. The duplicate’s page doesn’t mention the professional stamp. The Intendencia publishes the cost in UR (Unidad Reajustable) without saying which month; the DGI publishes each month’s value.

The driver’s license office is at Avenida España 235, Melo, open Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 13:30. Phone: 4643 8834. The official pages don’t name other license offices in the department.
