Driver’s license in Maldonado

First time

For categories A, B, H, G1 and G2. From age 18, and G1 from 16: anyone applying before 18 goes with both parents or their guardian, with the marriage record book, the birth certificate or the guardianship document.

• Valid Uruguayan ID card or passport, in good condition, with a photocopy; or a valid Mercosur passport.
• No pending fines or penalties.
• If there’s a practical exam, the vehicle’s SOA up to date.

The psychophysical certificate is valid for 60 calendar days.

1. Book on the Licencias de Conducir booking page or in person, at the Dirección de Licencias de Conducir.
2. On the booked day you pay and they book you for the defensive driving talk, the theory exam and the practical exam.
3. The defensive driving talk needs no booking: Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 8:30 or 18:30, at the Tribuna Este of the Campus Municipal (Burnett and Suiza).

The procedure is valid for 180 calendar days from when you start it; after that you start from scratch.

Renewal

• It’s done within the 30 days before it expires.
• Bring every license you hold; if they were lost or stolen, the police report, from any police headquarters in the country.
• The psychophysical certificate: for B, C, D, E, F, H and G3, only from the Servicios Médicos Municipales or BIOESTE.
• For B, C, D, E, F and H, the criminal record certificate, no more than 90 days old.
• If it expired more than 2 years ago, they book you for the talk and the theory and practical exams. The talk also applies if you never attended or if your license is from another department.
• In the amateur categories, from age 75 the practical exam is required, with a photocopy of the ownership document of a Uruguayan vehicle. In the professional ones, from 69.

You book on the online booking page, in person in the Intendencia’s entrance hall, or with the online renewal form: you upload the documents (up to 5 MB in total, as JPG, PNG or PDF), you get a payment code by email, and on the booked day you still go with the originals.

Duplicate

If your valid license was lost, stolen or damaged, the duplicate costs 50% of the cost, 0.63 UR, with the police report if it was lost or stolen. If your license is from another department, call 4222 1921, extension 13333.

The Intendencia publishes the cost in UR, in bands of months, without saying what the months refer to, on the pages updated on 26/05/2026:

What you pay a private institution for the psychophysical exam isn’t deducted. The DGI publishes the UR’s value each month.

The official pages don’t name license offices outside the city of Maldonado.
