How to book

Each procedure has its own place on the Intendencia’s Agenda Virtual (online booking). You can also book by phone at 1950 4000, option 2, or by WhatsApp at 099 019 500. The booking opens every day at 8:00 and places are limited.

For any procedure you can’t have unpaid traffic fines or overdue payment plans, and the vehicle for the test can’t owe vehicle tax, tolls or fines.

First time: A, G1 and G2

  • Uruguayan ID card or passport, valid and in good condition.
  • A medical certificate from an authorised medical institution in Montevideo.
  • To practise and take the test in a private vehicle: its libreta de propiedad (registration card; it can’t be STX, STU or SES), valid SOA (compulsory motor insurance) and the technical inspection if it was first registered more than 5 years ago. Whoever goes with you is over 21 and holds a valid license with at least 2 years in that category or a higher one.
  1. Get the medical certificate at an authorised institution.
  2. Book a day and time.
  3. Go to Av. 18 de Julio 1360 with the documents. There you pay and, once the documents are approved, the theory exam is booked.
  4. Once you pass the theory exam, the practical exam is booked. To take it, 15 hours of lessons are required, private or at a driving school.
  • If you take the test in an automatic car, the license is only valid for automatics.
  • With a driving school, you take the documents to the school.
  • If you already have G1, G2 or H, you don’t take the theory exam.
  • G1 can be obtained from 16, with a parent or guardian and the authorisation letter.
  • From age 80, the medical certificate is done by the Intendencia and the license is issued for up to 1 year.
  • To study: the car and motorcycle manual.

First time: professional categories

For B, C, D, E, F, H and G3, the medical exam is at the Intendencia and you bring printed blood tests (glycaemia, lipid profile, VDRL) and a simple urine test, no more than six months old, and a valid tetanus vaccination certificate. B and H can be obtained without prior time in another category.

Renewal

  • From 30 days before it expires. If it expired more than 2 years ago, you take the theory and practical tests.
  • Your ID card, your current license (or the police report, if you lost it) and a medical certificate for renewal from an authorised institution.
  • The validity is set by the medical exam, not by you.
  • From age 75, every renewal includes a practical test. From 80, the license is issued for 1 year at most, with a medical exam at the Intendencia.
  • Professional licenses include the medical exam at the Intendencia, with the same tests as the first time.

We didn’t find an online renewal: every page asks you to book and go in person. If you book a Saturday, the entrance is at San José 1376.

Duplicate and homologation

  • Duplicate, for theft, loss or damage: your ID card and, for theft or loss, the police report.
  • Homologation of A, G1 and G2: a Spanish license is retained; from another country, your license record with its apostille (without an apostille, you take the theory and practical tests), with a certified translation if it isn’t in Spanish. A license from another department is homologated if it has more than 1 year of validity left.
