How it’s done

In the city of Florida:

  1. Book at a payment network (Abitab, RedPagos, Correo Uruguayo), at the Edificio Municipal, at a municipality or at a local office. You get a date and time.
  2. On that day you go with the documents to the Centro médico, at Independencia, corner of Luis Alberto de Herrera.
  3. Then you go to the Edificio Municipal, at Independencia 586.
  4. If there’s a practical test, you go to the transit office at Juan A. Lavalleja, corner of Aparicio Saravia (Prado), with the vehicle and the companion, and back to the Edificio Municipal.

When you book you only pay for the medical exam; the physical and technical exam is paid at a second stage. At a municipality or junta local they book you for the medical exam and then call you to give you a date and time for the physical and technical exam.

First time

There’s a page per category for cars and for motorcycles. What each one adds:

CategoryAgeAlso
AOver 18A vehicle with its taxes paid and a companion with a valid license. Over 35, fasting and a urine sample
BOver 18A vehicle with more than 13 and up to 18 passengers, or of 4,000 to 7,000 kg, and a companion with a B license or higher. Fasting and a urine sample
G116 and 17The authorisation of one parent, in person, a moped and a companion with a valid motorcycle license
G2Over 18A motorcycle and a companion with a valid license
G3Over 213 years with G2, a motorcycle over 200 cc and a companion with a G3 license

The fast is 12 hours (8 if you’re diabetic), with a jar of the first urine of the morning. All of them ask for the booking receipt, the medical exam payment receipt, a valid ID document and proof of tetanus vaccination; if yours has expired, they vaccinate you at the Centro médico when you start the procedure. The motorcycle ones also ask for an ID photo and no outstanding debts. The test vehicle must have all its taxes paid.

For motorcycles there’s also a category 3: a departmental permit for mopeds up to 50 cc at ages 14 and 15, not valid on national roads.

Renewal

The renewal pages for A, B and motorcycles ask for:

  • An appointment, the booking receipt and the medical exam payment receipt.
  • A valid ID document and the previous license; if you lost it or it was stolen, a police report no more than 30 days old.
  • Proof of tetanus vaccination.
  • For A, fasting and a urine sample if you’re over 35; for B, always.

Duplicate

If your valid license was lost, stolen or is damaged, the duplicate asks for your ID card and a police report no more than 30 days old, or the damaged license and your ID card. It needs no appointment, unless the license is from another department: then you do the medical part of a renewal. It’s done at the license office, at Independencia 586, Monday to Friday, 10:15 to 15:30, or at the municipalities and juntas locales.

To move up to a higher category there’s the change of category, with the age and seniority of the new category, a suitable vehicle and a companion holding that category.

Costs

The motorcycle renewal pages, updated on 25/03/2025, charge the renewal by term, as a percentage of 1.25 UR (Unidad Reajustable), and the G1 and G3 pages say $ 1,844 for the medical exam:
