How to book

On the Licencia de Conducir online booking, which also opens from the Intendencia’s Agenda Web, in person or by phone at 4452 2108, extensions 153 and 155. The procedure is done in person.

In every category:

• You can’t start, renew or change category with pending fines or sanctions.
• You hand in every driver’s license you hold.
• The Intendencia doesn’t provide vehicles for the practical test.
• The medical exam is at the Intendencia. The blood glucose test, no more than 24 hours old, is done at a pharmacy or a health provider (mutualista) and you bring the result.

First time: A, G1, G2 and H

According to the procedure page, updated on 05/09/2025:

• A valid ID card (cédula de identidad) and a photocopy.
• The SOA (compulsory motor insurance).
• Proof of address: a UTE, OSE or Antel bill (landline), a notarial certificate or the residence certificate from the police station. It doesn’t have to be from the department.
• 2 professional stamps (timbres profesionales), of $ 160 and $ 260.
• The blood glucose test and the medical exam.
• Age 18. G1 is given from 16; before 18 you go with your legal representatives (mother and father or guardian) to sign the authorization.

Professional and change of category

To get or renew a professional license (B, C, D, E, F and G3) or change category, the procedure page, updated on 05/09/2025, also asks for the criminal record certificate, a valid health card (carné de salud) with a photocopy and a private psychological exam, which takes a $ 160 professional stamp. Renewal

According to the renewal page, updated on 21/02/2024:

• The license expired or expiring within 30 days, and a valid ID card.
• The medical exam at the Intendencia and the blood glucose test.
• Proof of address and the professional stamps.
• For B, C, D, E, F and G3, also the private psychological exam, the health card and the criminal record certificate.
• Expired more than 2 years ago, you take the theory and practical tests again.
• With complete documents and a medical exam marked fit, the license is handed over the same day.

This page asks for stamps of $ 140 and $ 240; the 2025 pages, of $ 160 and $ 260. According to the catalog, the professional license is given up to age 75 and after 75 renewal always includes a practical test; the Intendencia’s page says 70. Confirm it at 4452 2108.

Duplicate

Cost

The license costs 1.25 UR, plus the professional stamps, according to the Intendencia’s 2026 cost sheet. The charge goes down with the validity: you pay 20%, 40%, 60% or 100% if the term is under 2, 3, 6 or 10 years. The catalog pages give other brackets: confirm it at the Dirección de Tránsito.

The procedure is generated at the office and paid only at a payment network (red de cobranza). The value of the UR each month is published by the DGI.
