Register a new vehicle

According to the document Tránsito y Transporte, Servicios y Trámites, from February 2021, for motorcycles and cars:

• A photocopy of your ID card.
• The document issued by the dealer.
• The Registro Único de Contribuyente Municipal (RUCM) number, from the Oficina de Tributos.
• A photocopy of the compulsory insurance.
• The vehicle, for the inspection.
• The registration stamp, from the Tránsito cash desk.

For trailers and similar it asks for the manufacturer’s statement certified by a notary, with the materials used, the vehicle’s specifications, the ID card and its photocopy, the buyer’s RUCM, valid insurance and the vehicle for the inspection.

Re-registration

The same document asks for:

• The ID card and its photocopy, and the RUCM number.
• The stamp, from the Tránsito cash desk.
• The vehicle, for the inspection.
• A photocopy of the valid SOA.
• The registration card.
• A photocopy of the receipt showing the vehicle tax is paid.
• The title, or the seller’s signature certified by a notary, or a power of attorney before a notary.
• The seller’s certificate of no debt, if it’s by certified signatures or power of attorney.

For a vehicle from another department, SUCIVE has an online re-registration request: once it shows as accepted, you do the re-registration at the Intendencia.

Duplicate

For the duplicate card, the 2021 document asks for the police report of the loss, a photocopy of your ID card, a photocopy of the valid insurance, a photocopy of the receipt showing the vehicle tax is paid and the certificate of no debt.

Costs

That’s the amount in the February 2021 document; given the date, confirm it at 1884, extension 1530. We didn’t find the cost of registering or re-registering on an official page.

The Intendencia’s phone: 1884. According to the 2026 list of extensions, in Tránsito, Empadronamiento is extension 1530, Inspección Vehicular 1560 and the cash desk 1525. The Sede Central is at Avenida Carlos Lecueder 472, city of Artigas, Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 18:00. We couldn’t confirm that the Tránsito office is at that address.
