Register a new vehicle

The page on registering vehicles online says it can be requested by those named as buyers on the sale note or letter, their representative with a certified power of attorney, or someone holding an assignment of rights certified by a notary. For a private vehicle it asks for:

• Each buyer’s valid ID card. If the owner is a minor, a current birth certificate, and those with parental authority sign, with their documents and a photocopy.
• If you act on someone’s behalf, the power of attorney with notarial certification.
• An address in Colonia: a notarial certification or, for an individual, UTE, OSE or Antel bills, the police certificate of address or other documents showing your home or work address, such as an employment certificate, a BPS or DGI certificate, a credit card statement or the insurer’s invoice.
• For a company, a notarial certificate with its name, RUT (tax number), address and who signs; for a sole proprietorship, the DGI certificate with the business name and RUT is enough.
• The sale note or letter from the importer or its representative, on letterhead and with an identified signature; otherwise, with notarial certification of the signature.
• The SOA (compulsory motor insurance).
• The customs certificate, if the vehicle was imported before 15/12/2008 or isn’t recorded in the customs Lucía system.

For taxis, remises, rentals without a driver, school and tourist transport, used farm machinery and vehicles with the disability exemption of Law 13,102, the page adds other documents.

2. Once the information is checked, the Intendencia’s office contacts you to continue. It may ask for other documents.

For now the online request is only for imported vehicles, with the customs procedures done.

A vehicle from another department

We didn’t find the requirements for re-registering in Colonia on an official page. SUCIVE has an online re-registration request: once it shows as accepted, you do the re-registration at the Intendencia.

Duplicate and costs

We didn’t find the duplicate card, or the costs of registration, re-registration or the duplicate, on an Intendencia page. Ask on 4522 7000, at the Oficina Central, Avenida General Flores 467, Colonia del Sacramento, Monday to Friday, 12:15 to 17:00.
