Register a new vehicle

For cars, vans and motorcycles, the registration page asks for:

• ID card and the SOA (compulsory motor insurance).
• Proof of address: a notarial certification, a police certificate or utility bills.
• The sale note or the invoice, with the buyer’s name and ID number or RUT (tax number) and the chassis and engine numbers.
• If it was imported before 15/12/2008, the customs certificate.
• The vehicle in roadworthy condition, for the technical inspection. Cars and motorcycles can choose not to have it.

It can be done online through SUCIVE; afterwards the delivery of the DIV and the plates is arranged by email. It costs $ 4,630 for cars and vans, and $ 3,125 for motorcycles and similar.

A vehicle coming from another department

Re-registration is in person and asks for your ID card, the DIV or the police report, the vehicle tax up to date, the SOA, the plates or the police report, and proof of a home or work address in Canelones. The technical inspection is done. It costs $ 4,630.

Duplicate DIV

For theft, loss or damage, the duplicate asks for:

• ID card, original and photocopy.
• The damaged document or the police report.
• The vehicle tax up to date with no fines, and the SOA.
• If the person requesting it uses the vehicle but isn’t the owner, a notarial certification that the notary knows them as its user.

The technical inspection is done. It costs $ 1,620. You request it with the online duplicate request or with an appointment on the vehicle procedures booking.
