Register a new vehicle

The Tránsito page asks for:

• A photocopy of a valid ID card.
• The purchase invoice, original or a photocopy certified by a notary.
• The dealer’s registration letter, if there is one.
• The customs certificate on notarial paper if the vehicle is from before 2009; otherwise the office gets it online.
• The vehicle, for inspection.
• The compulsory insurance.
• Proof of address: UTE, OSE, Antel, a residence certificate or similar.

If the person doing the procedure isn’t the one on the invoice and the registration letter, a power of attorney or an assignment of rights certified by a notary is also needed. If they’re a minor, both parents sign, with a photocopy of all three ID cards and the minor’s birth certificate.

A vehicle from another department

For re-registration, the municipal owner brings a photocopy of a valid ID card, the registration card, the patente up to date, the vehicle for inspection, the compulsory insurance and proof of address. If a representative goes, also the owner’s power of attorney certified by a notary, valid for 1 year.

If you re-register and transfer at the same time, instead of the power of attorney a photocopy of the title registered in the applicant’s name, certified by a notary and showing the vehicle’s municipal owner, also works.

Duplicate

The Tránsito page publishes the cost of a duplicate registration card, but not its requirements. We didn’t find them on an official page: ask at 1935, extension 1519, or at [email protected].
