Registration card in Cerro Largo
In Cerro Largo the registration card is the DIV, Documento de Identificación Vehicular or libreta de propiedad. You register in person, with an inspection of the vehicle, and you’re given the card and the plate.

Register a new vehicle
The page for the registration of cars and similar, updated on 29/04/2026, asks for:
- A valid ID card.
- Proof of address in Cerro Largo, in the name of the person on the receipt or the invoice.
- The SOA.
- The invoice, or the purchase receipt plus the registration letter (carta de empadronamiento).
- For a company, the BPS certificate and the DGI certificate.
- The vehicle, for the inspection.
The registration of motorcycles and similar, updated on 30/04/2026, asks for the same; between 16 and 18, with the parents’ or guardian’s authorisation and the birth certificate.
If the receipt for an unregistered motorcycle isn’t in your name, the registration and transfer of a motorcycle, updated on 12/05/2026, does both in one procedure: the person on the receipt and the person registering, who must be over 18, go with the ID card, proof of address in Cerro Largo, the invoice or the receipt with the registration letter, and the motorcycle.
- Go to the office and take a number.
- You request the procedure and the vehicle is inspected.
- You’re given the registration card and the plate.
A vehicle from another department
The re-registration of cars and similar asks for the ID card, the DIV, the title of ownership (without a title: the certificate of no lien and the signatures of the buyer and the seller, or a power of attorney), the SOA, proof of address, being up to date, the two current plates, which you hand in, and the vehicle for the inspection. At the end you’re given the documents and the new plates.
The re-registration of motorcycles and similar asks for the ID card, the DIV, the SOA and proof of address. If the motorcycle is over 250 cc, the registry’s report that it’s free of liens and seizures, unless the municipal owner doesn’t change.
