A vehicle coming from another department

Re-registration is done by the vehicle’s owner:

  • The vehicle, at the technical inspection (calle Luis A. Herrera), and the vehicle tax up to date.
  • With the inspection certificate, the registration card, a valid ID card and a photocopy, proof of address, a photocopy of the valid SOA and the vehicle’s registry certificate, original, or a notarial copy, lien-free, no more than 5 business days old.
  • The plates that go out of use, which are handed back.

If you’re not the owner, the guide refers you to the transfer options, with the transfer power of attorney form. Then you pay at a payment network and collect the plates and the registration card.

Mercosur plates

To switch to Mercosur plates (rematriculación): being of legal age, the vehicle at the technical inspection or a certificate from another intendencia, the vehicle tax up to date and, with the inspection certificate, the registration card, your ID card and a photocopy, a photocopy of the valid SOA and the old plates, which are handed back. It’s done in person by the owner, a representative or the user, who signs a sworn statement. The technical inspection is valid for up to 30 days.
