Register a new vehicle

For cars, vans and trucks, the registration page asks for:

• The vehicle, for inspection.
• The valid insurance certificate.
• The dealer’s registration request.
• ID card and photocopy, and a valid driver’s license.
• If you act for someone else, a power of attorney certified by a notary, less than 180 days old, original and photocopy.
• If the owner is a minor, both parents sign, with the marriage record book or the birth certificate, or the guardian with their guardianship certificate.
• Proof of address in the department: a state utility bill or the police certificate.

They check the documents, inspect the vehicle and give you the padrón number and the plate number, with which you pay at a payment network. Then you get the plates and the registration card. The patente is charged from the registration date, in the corresponding instalments.

For motorcycles the same is asked: the insurance, the dealer’s request, the ID card, the driver’s license, the proof of address and the motorcycle for inspection.

A vehicle from another department

The re-registration asks for the vehicle for inspection, the valid insurance certificate, the patente up to date or a debt agreement, the registration card, the owner’s ID card and photocopy, and proof of address in the department. If the registration card shows the previous owner, bring the title or a power of attorney proving ownership.

Duplicate

For breakage, loss or theft, without changing the plate number, the duplicate asks for the receipt of the patente up to date, the ID card and photocopy, the police report and insurance up to date. You pay at a payment network and go back to the counter with the receipt to collect the new card.
